Got Venetian Blinds? Get Them Clean!

Venetian blinds are a popular type of window covering because they are inexpensive and relatively easy to clean. How you clean them, however, depends on the material your blinds are made of and how much time you have on your hands.

No matter the type of Venetian blinds that you have, you can get them cleaned quickly with this guide from the Las Vegas window cleaning professionals that you trust the most.

What You’ll Need

Instructions

Prepare: If you have curtains in front of your windows, tie them back so that you don’t get window cleaner on the fabric. Then, check if there are any particularly stubborn stains on the blinds that need to be spot cleaned. If there are, take care of these now. Just be careful with wooden Venetian blinds. You don’t want to damage them with an abrasive scrubber. A little elbow grease should get the job done just fine.

Step 1: Close the blinds.

Step 2: Put on your cotton gloves. If you don’t have these gloves, a dryer sheet generally works just as well because they attract dust away from the blinds and keeps dust from sticking again later.

Step 3: Spray your glove (or dryer sheet) with the cleaning product. If you are cleaning Venetian blinds that are made of wood, keep your glove dry and spray the wood cleaning product directly onto the blinds to prevent streaks. If you have metal or plastic gloves, traditional window cleaner or a mixture of water and vinegar works well.

Step 4: Run your fingers along the slats to clean the dust off of them. It’s a good idea to start in the center and move outward rather than moving from one end to the other. This keeps gunky build up from developing.

Step 5: Repeat steps three and four on the other side of the blinds once you made your way to the bottom. Just remember to clean the dust off of your gloves (or grab a new dryer sheet) often to be sure that you aren’t just rubbing dirt around.

Alternate Actions

If this method of cleaning your blinds seems a little too time consuming, you can get a similar effect by cleaning them with a vacuum cleaner. Just use the brush attachment to loosen and suction up the dirt that is on your blinds. However, if there are any stains or sticky areas, you may need to pursue a more deep cleaning like mentioned above.

If your blinds are particularly dirty, you can do an even deeper cleaning that was mentioned above. Carefully take down your blinds by following installment instructions and soak them in the bathtub with warm water and a cleaning solution. Unfortunately, this cleaning method only works for Venetian blinds that are made of plastic or metal.
